*Today, three deep coal mines remain operational in the UK: Kellingley, Thoresby and Hatfield. UK Coal manages Kellingley Colliery in Yorkshire and Thoresby Colliery in Nottinghamshire. The two mines are set to close by 2015, leaving the employee-owned Hatfield Colliery in South Yorkshire as Britain's last deep coal mine.
*Today (2020) there are no operational deep coal mines in the UK, the last deep coal mine closed in 2015.
